Luxury tax set to take affect on July 1 (2011/03/31)

The luxury tax is set to take effect on July 1, but it has already dampened enthusiasm in the real estate market. In the month after the policy was announced, housing prices in Taiwan's six major metropolitan areas have shown clear downward trends.

The average housing price in Taichung fell nearly 11 and a half percent in March compared with February, the steepest drop of any urban area in Taiwan. Prices in Taoyuan fell 9 percent, 6 percent in Kaohsiung and were down three and a half percent in Tainan, and 5 and a half percent in New Taipei City. However, in taipei real estate prices, barely budged, falling only 0.2 percent compared with February.

奢侈打房後

7月1日奢侈稅就要正式上路，效應也陸續顯現，

統計奢侈稅公佈後一個月，全台六大都會區在房價上，已經出現明顯變化。

其中，台中市3月均價比起2月，下滑11.42%，是受創最深的地區，

另外，桃竹縣市以及高雄市，分別下滑8.99%以及5.8%，

至於新北市，房價也跌了5.46%，另外，台南3.5%，台北市影響比較小，微幅下降0.19%。

When you visit the Flora Expo, you'll probably get tired just trying to see everything here, but that's okay, because I know a good place where you can take a break.

Located in the Xinsheng Park Area, the Pavilion of Angel Life is not like any other pavilion at the Expo because it has its own lifestyle.

The big kitchen, beautiful dining table and spacious living room under the high ceiling create a calm and peaceful living space. Visitors can come in to take a nap or simply meditate.

We would like to express particularly slow life in Taiwan, so I try to arrange the space (that is) very quiet, very elegant.

The interior is a fantasia of flowing water and flower landscapes. The producer of the pavilion, Serina Lai, says that fusing art with technology presents the ever-changing nature of Taiwan's waters and mountains.

During the daytime around here, it is a park and everything is green, and during the night, we just bring the natural landscape into our house.

By providing an extraordinary resting area, the Pavilion of Angel Life gives its visitors a chance take a break from their busy exploration, with style.

The last of the Chilean miners has been rescued -- ending a 69-day ordeal that riveted the world.

Luis Alberto Urz-ua appeared at the surface to cheers and applause from some 2-thousand people ....

His rescue through 2-thousand feet of rock .. completed a 22- and a half hour operation that unfolded with remarkable speed and flawless execution.

The 33 miners made the smooth ascent inside a capsule called the Phoenix - which was 13 feet tall, barely wider than their shoulders and painted in the colors of the Chilean flag.

Toxic red sludge from an aluminum plant in Hungary has reached the Danube River, days after a factory's reservoir burst.

The spill has killed at least four people and is likely to take a year to clean up.

Hungary's prime minister has described the incident as an 'unprecedented ecological catastrophe' and a state of emergency continues in the country.

An environmental chemist with the Clean Air Action Group in Hungary, says the situation is serious.

The sludge could reach six countries, including Croatia, Serbia, and Romania, although crews are trying to dilute the alkaline content and protect the water.

匈牙利煉鋁廠的有毒汙泥儲存槽破裂，70萬立方公尺的汙泥流入多瑙河，已經讓流域各國心驚膽跳。

匈牙利總理歐本9日說，又有一座儲存槽的裂縫擴大，預估50萬立方公尺的重金屬汙泥隨時可能外洩。

歐本表示儲存槽裂縫在一夜之間擴大7公分，他不能說擋土牆一定會倒塌，但情況很危急。

區域災害應變中心主任達布森表示，專家擔憂將來廢水池的牆壁可能會變得更脆弱，雖然目前沒有流出新汙泥，但800名居民的撤離行動已在破曉前展開。

鄰近的城鎮德維可瑟（Devecser）可能會成為下一個汙泥氾濫的地方，警方要求5300名居民收拾所需物品，隨時準備撤離。

匈牙利災害應變中心公布的水質測試結果顯示，遭汙泥汙染的多瑙河水質酸鹼度（pH值）低於9，

遠低於先前在事發地點附近水道測得的13.5，水質酸鹼度的正常值上限為8。

內政部長品特（Sandor Pinter ）表示，這代表汙泥已被稀釋，不會造成任何生態損害。

事發地點仍存在著汙泥遍布的風險與環境損害，綠色和平組織的化驗結果顯示，汙泥中有高濃度的重金屬。
