20101029 Daniel Craig From Stage to Screen (1)

Daniel Craig: From Stage to Screen

One of Britain's busiest actors brings "Bond" into the 21st century

Like many little boys in the 1970s, Daniel Craig dreamed of being James Bond, but as an adult actor, he never aspired to play the part. Yet it was this very role as the famous secret agent that turned Craig into a Hollywood superstar.

A young star in the making
Craig was born in 1968 in Chester, England, to parents Tim and Olivia Craig. His mother, who at one time had acting aspirations, exposed her son to theatrical productions at a very young age. It came as no surprise when Craig earned his very first role at age 6 in his primary school's production of the musical Oliver.

Soon after, Craig accompanied his father to see his first Bond movie, and the impact of the two experiences resulted in his catching the acting bug! He might not have been a great student, but according to his high school drama teacher Hilary Green, He was one of the school's best actors. She said that it was clear from his very first audition that "he was a natural on the stage ... and quite exceptional."

Others must have agreed because at age 16 Craig auditioned and was accepted into London's National Youth Theater (NYT).

See the World Couch by Couch

How to CouchSurf
Trust builds when CochSurfers interact with each other online and meet in person. To get started, build a profile and post in the online forums. Meet the CouchSurfers in your area by attending a local meeting. Offer to show travelers around your city. That's what CouchSurfers did for Studio Classroom teacher Ryan Batdorf on a trip to Singapore. Batdorf says, "They taught me many interesting things about Singapore. They showed me things I would never have found on my own, like amazing Indian food in Chinatown."

When you're ready to host, you can indicate that on your profile. People will begin to send you requests. Read their profiles and the references other CouchSurfers have posted about them.
With this information, you can decide if you want to host a person or not. Hosts and CouchSurfers often discover that the experience changes them. Blain says, "I think CouchSurfing is a good way to have an open mind. Maybe the best one I know."

CouchSurfing offers more than just a free place to sleep

Last year, Clement Blain decided to leave France. He wanted to travel around Europe, but he said, "I didn't have so much money. When I discovered CouchSurfing ... that was wonderful. I realized that all over the world people are ready to meet, to host, to share. And the money issue wasn't a limit anymore." After five months and 12 countries, Blain continues to experience Europe one couch at a time.

CouchSurfing is an online hospitality network with almost 2 million members.

All you need is an empty couch in your home to host a "CouchSurfer." On the road, you can send a request to members after looking at their profiles. If someone accepts your request, you can stay with him or her for free. Instead of money, guests and hosts exchange hospitality, gifts, stories and cultures. In the Kitchen With a Chef

SC: How important are measurements when following a recipe?

DW: You know, I've been cooking for so long, I do it all by feel now. But for the average cook, measurements are essential. There's an old saying: "you can add to a recipe but you can't take away." Jason Mraz - I'm Yours

推薦一首好聽的歌。
先別急著查歌詞,看可以聽懂多少。
===========================
歌詞算簡單,改天再來翻譯一下。
===========================

Well you done done me and you bet I felt it
I tried to be chill but you're so hot that I melted
I fell right through the cracks and now I'm trying to get back
Before the cool done run out
I'll be giving it my bestest and nothing's going to stop me but divine intervention
I reckon it's again my turn to win some or learn some

But I won't hesitate no more, no more
It cannot wait, I'm yours

Mmmmhmmm-Mmmmhhmmm, Mmmmmhmmm
(Heeeeey heeeey)

Open up your mind and see like me
Open up your plans and damn you're free
Look into your heart and you'll find love love love love
Listen to the music of the moment
People dance and sing
We're just one big family
And It's our God-forsaken right to be loved loved loved loved loved

So I won't hesitate no more, no more
It cannot wait, I'm sure
There's no need to complicate
Our time is short
This is our fate, I'm yours

D-d-do do you, do you, d-d-do, do you want to come?
Scooch on over closer dear, I'll whisper in your ear
Wo-ooo-o-oh who-oo-o-o-oh

I've been spending way too long tricking my tongue in the mirror
And bending over backwards just to try to see it clearer
But my breath fogged up the glass
And so I drew a new face and laughed
I guess what I be saying is there ain't no better reason
To rid yourself of vanities and just go with the seasons
It's what we aim to do
Our name is our virtue

But I won't hesitate no more, no more
It cannot wait, I'm yours

Open up your mind and see like me
(I won't hesitate)
Open up your plans and damn you're free
(No more, no more)
I look into your heart and you'll find that the sky is yours
(It cannot wait, I'm sure)

So please don't, please don't, please don't
(There's no need to complocate)
There's no need to complocate
(Our time is short)
'Cause our time is short
(This is our fate)
This is oh, this is oh, this is our fate
I'm yours

In the Kitchen With a Chef

What really happens in the kitchen

SC: What is the difference between a chef and a cook?
DW: Cooks generally work at entry-level jobs. They work at different places in the kitchen and follow recipes. Chefs have special training and know which foods go well together, so they can invent new recipes.

SC: How do you become a chef

DW: There are many culinary schools both in the U.S.and abroad. All are good - you really can't pick the best one. You get out of the course what you put into it. Eighty percent of being a chef is technique - learning how to do things. The other 20 percent is natural ability.

SC: Describe the day of a chef.

DW: I generally go to work two hours before service starts. The night before, we will have written lists of all the things we need to prepare when we get there. I get everything ready, and then we begin service. I work in different roles depending on what is needed. Typically, it's a 10 to 12-hour day. I stay about an hour after service is done to make sure all the prep lists are written for the next day. Then I close down the kitchen.

The Blue Angels treat audiences to a spectacular air show

This weekend, the skies over Jacksonville, Fla., will roar to life as one of the nation's most famous air squadrons, the Blue Angels, flies into town. The flight demonstration team, composed of highly trained U.S. Navy and Marine Corps jet pilots, will display some of the most difficult flying techniques ever performed. Their shows include vertical rolls up to 15,000 feet. The skilled pilots also combine graceful circles with spectacular dives, amazing their crowds with incredible precision flying. For the big finish, six planes look like they lock wings as they fly 500 miles an hour, only 18 inches apart.

20101019 Chopin Poet of the Piano (2)

Chopin: Poet of the Piano 鋼琴詩人蕭邦

The composer in Paris
In 1831, Chopin settled down in Paris, making a living as a composer and highly paid piano teacher. Shy by nature, Chopin avoided playing in public, preferring to perform for small groups instead. His health also began declining during this time. In 1838, he spent the winter in Majorca, an island south of Spain. Chopin was forced out of an apartment there because the landlord feared he had tuberculosis. Though the move was a hardship, Chopin managed to compose 24 pieces of music, called preludes, that winter. Despite his poor health, Chopin was dedicated to composing. An observer once described his creative process. "[The music] came to his piano suddenly… or it sang in his head during a walk. But then would begin the most heartbreaking labor I have ever witnessed. He would shut himself up in his room for days at a time, weeping, pacing, breaking his pens, repeating and changing a single measure a hundred times." In 1849, Chopin’s ill health finally took his life. However, through Chopin’s more than 200 compositions, his passion can still be heard from the piano.

This Polish composer's beautiful piano music plays to the heart
On a winter night in 1810, a boy with exceptional talent was born in a village in Poland. Son of a French father and Polish mother, Frédéric François Chopin (1810-1849) would end up writing expressive piano music that still moves audiences today.

The youth in Poland
Chopin began studying the piano at home when he was 5. His prodigious talent quickly became obvious. Before he was 10, Chopin was composing music and performing in public. He published his first composition at the age of 7.

At 11, he performed his own music for Alexander I, the tsar of Russia. The pleased tsar gave Chopin a diamond ring. Chopin benefited from studying under teachers that encouraged his original style and didn't push him to follow traditional conventions. Chopin's teachers emphasized classical composers such as Beethoven and Mozart without neglecting to introduce Chopin to contemporary romantic composers. 20101016 The AIRPod (1)

The AIRPod

Never worry about gas again!

What do you and Motor Development International's (MDI) newest car have in comon? You both rely on air to operate. Does that sound impossible? Well, it's true! You don't put gas in this vehicle - it runs on the same thing you breathe!

How it works
The AIRPod is powered by an engine that runs on compressed air. Several high-pressure tanks on the car supply the air.

MDI claims the vehicle can go 220 kilometers before the tanks need to be refilled. The tanks take only minutes to refill at special air stations.

What the car can do
Use the car's joystick to drive this cute car through the city. But since the vehicle's top speed is 45 kilometers per hour, you won't be breaking any speed records. The standard model has room for three medium-sized adults and one child. The car costs about $8,000. But best of all, it costs less than $1.50 per 200 kilometers to drive and is pollution-free!
