Traveling Safely with Money

The only money you lose on vacation should be the money you spend!

Are you ready to take that dream vacation you've been diligently saving for? Make sure you put as much thought into planning your spending money as you do into planning your itinerary. Consider these options:

Credit cards:
One of the many advantages of crdit cards is convenience. Once popular only in the U.S., credit cards are now used extensively in many parts of the world and often offer good exchange rates. Besides using them to buy goods, you can get cash from almost any ATM with them.

Traveler's checks(or travelers cheques)
Traveler's checks are a valuable asset when you can't find an ATM or one won't accept your credit card. Pioneered by American Express in 1891, travelers cheques offer many of the advantages of cash with significantly lower risks since they can be replaced if lost or stolen. They can be exchanged for cash at banks and hotels, so carrying a few is a good idea. When you get the checks, sign them once near the top. When you use them, you must sign on the lower line in the presene of the person accepting the check.

Cash
Carrying cash is convenient but unsafe. Credit cards and travelers cheques can be replaced if lost or stolen. In most cases, the smartest way to travel is to carry as little cash as possible.

How does a traveler's check company make money? Mostly, companies make their profit from the interest earned on the money you give them. Remember, the money you give a company for a traveler's check is theirs from the time the check is issued until the time you cash it. So, the longer your traveler's check remains uncashed, the more money the traveler check company makes!
