20091107 Chiling Tong (2)

International leadership Foundation
When asked recently about her latest project, Tong said," I want to help young people gain competence and prepare them to face life's challenges. You become a public servant because you have a passion and a dream and you want to help people." With those goals in mind, Tong and her husband, Joel Szabat, co-founded International Leadership Foundation(ILF). Each year, IlF awards scholarships to approximately 35 Asian-Pacific American college students and sponsors nearly 120 more students for leadership training. The scholarship recipients get hands-on experience while performing public service internships in various govermnental agencies.

New program for Asian students
Whereas the scholarship program is designed for Asian Americans, "Young Ambassadors," ILF's 12-day summer program held in Washington, D.C., is strictly for college students from Asia. It includes lectures on public policy, business negotiation skills, environmental protection, global economic trends and more. Students tour area monuments and government offices, and they visit with congressmen and women. Through its various training programs, ILF strives to raise up future business and government leaders.

Tong's childhood passion for English became a vehicle for personal achievement. oday, she uses her passion, enthusiasm and experience to help prepare others for a orld of exciting opportunities
